The Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel would land on Pole Position for the second race in succession. 2010 Australia WallPaperSebastian Vettel would lead away from the head of the pack with mayhem ensuing as Jenson Button's McLaren touched the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso and spun him to face the pack.!!!! Jenson on losing places decided to pit early for dry tyres and would reap the benefits of a drying track as the others needed to pit after him. He would say that it was easier for him, with a lap in hand, to avoid the damp patches. Fernando Alonso would mount a storming drive back to fourth position. Also noted was Michael Schumacher's drive back from dead last to finish tenth and score one point. Lewis Hamilton who qualified a dire eleventh would mount an awesome drive through the field but was hampered on his way by a collision with Mark Webber when the Australian struck the leading McLaren in its efforts to pass the Ferrari of Alonso. The McLaren driver would continue to finish sixth with Mark Webber stopping for a new nosecone. He nevertheless finished ninth. Force India's Vitantonio Liuzzi scored for the second race in a row. All in all a relatively serene win for Jenson Button! Read More...

#F1 News: Fauzy to drive Lotus in Friday's Sepang practice

    GMMf1NET

    March 28th 2010

In the wake of earlier comments made by team principal Tony Fernandes, it had seemed possible the Malaysian driver would be in action in Bahrain or Australia. But as was reported late in February, a concrete plan has always been in place to have the Kuala-Lumpur born 27-year-old at the wheel of the Malaysian-backed team's green car in front of the local crowd. To the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat, the news was confirmed by technical boss Mike Gascoyne. "I will talk about it after Sunday's race (in Australia) with Jarno and Heikki," he said. Because there are no third cars at grands prix, one of Lotus' race drivers will need to make way for Fauzy. Gascoyne said: "Both (Trulli and Kovalainen) are experienced drivers who do not need to do 40 laps in the first practice on a circuit that is familiar to them." Said Fernandes: "We're looking forward to going home, and really looking forward to giving our fans something to shout about." Read More...

#F1 News: Raikkonen to partner Vettel at Red Bull in 2011 - report

    GMMf1NET

    March 28th 2010

A report in Germany's Bild am Sonntag said the return of the Finn to formula one, to become his friend Sebastian Vettel's teammate, is already being arranged. Raikkonen, 30, is already under contract to the energy drinks company, having switched from Ferrari to world rallying for 2010 with the Red Bull-funded Citroen Junior Team. RBR team boss Christian Horner recently admitted that hiring Raikkonen for 2011 is an "interesting idea", and speculation about Webber's expiring contract was re-fired this weekend when Lewis Hamilton tipped the Australian to retire. Horner said on Saturday: "We are very happy with our drivers. Mark is driving very well, and he is not old, as Michael has demonstrated. "The average age (of F1 drivers) has dropped, but as long as Mark is motivated, competitive and quick, I don't think that he has any thoughts of stopping just yet." Vettel told Bild am Sonntag: "Kimi and I are good friends, but in the end I don't care who sits in the other car because I still have to beat him." He would not confirm that the Raikkonen deal is close to being finalised. "I don't know what the team is planning. And in the end, it is of course Kimi's decision. He needs to see how he feels."
