    "Kazuki was back in the cockpit today working through last minute reliability and performance items that required sign-off for Melbourne. We have put over 8,000kms on the FW31 in the last two months and, while there are always areas that require attention, reliability has been good. We've also been working hard with Toyota to achieve good reliability on the engine's working range, which has been subject to a reduction in revs but an increase in mileage. Considering the time we've had to do this, the work has gone well. At Williams, we are fortunate in that we have an exceptionally strong group of people on our test team who really are the unsung heroes of the sport. Our crew has worked flat out over the winter, repeatedly taking the FW31 apart and putting it back together, checking everything over and over again to ensure reliability and re-building the car after incidents, all of which is usually done late into the night. We thank them for their tremendous efforts over the past few months and for their contribution to the FW31. Kazuki Nakajima: ---
    "Firstly, I think we've had a successful run of winter testing. We've managed to put a lot of mileage on the car, mainly because we haven't experienced any reliability issues. The team have done a lot of work on the car throughout this process and it's looking quite good, but we will have to wait to see where everyone really is. I'm really excited about going to Australia and can't wait to get there now. Many thanks to everyone at the factory for all their hard work, and especially thanks to the guys on the test team." Nico Rosberg: ---
    "Now that we've reached the end of testing, I think that we are probably in a strong mid-field position, but we will have to wait until Melbourne to be certain. There's great potential for development over the year with the new rules. If we take the right direction with that development from the outset, it will help us make good steps forward, so we will be pushing hard to make that happen. I'd like to thank everyone at the factory for their hard work with the FW31 but particularly the test team for their motivation and drive throughout the winter despite any uncertainties there might be following the in-season test ban that has been put into place. On the back of a difficult season last year, it's been great to see everyone's determination and I am grateful for all their efforts."

Heikki was at the wheel of the MP4-24 as the team concluded the on track proving process of the MP4-24 package. New components, which arrived from the McLaren Technology Centre overnight, were fitted to the car for today's session receiving productive feedback.     It makes for fascinating reading... It's going to be a long flight to Melbourne, but I don't mind, I have plenty to read on the plane, including the 325 interviews I have given to Swiss magazines and newspapers since I was confirmed as a Toro Rosso driver. There are some other drivers and team bosses at the airport when I check in, but I don't see them after we go through passport control. I head off to the shops and they follow signs to another gate, although I have never heard of an airline called "VIP." No, I was wrong, they are on the same flight, but once again I don't see them on the plane. They all disappear through a curtain. I feel sorry for them, as I am lucky enough to sit near the back of the plane with the rest of my team. I get a middle seat, which is neat, as I can talk to two people either side of me. And it's handy for the toilets too. Halfway through the flight, I am feeling rather hungry and have an upset tummy from eating too much fruit, but there is nothing else on the menu that my trainer told me I'm allowed to eat. Maybe next time I should use a Japanese airline as they are more likely to serve Tofu and raw bean shoots. The other F1 people seem to like drinking wine. I think they are sad to be leaving their families after spending a lovely winter with them and are drinking to forget their sadness at having to be away for about a month for the first four races. Before I left the factory, my press officer - hey, do you like that? "my press officer" stuff - told me that when I land in Melbourne there might be some local TV film crews and newspaper reporters and photographers and would I mind doing interviews with any of them who asked. I am surprised at this lack of organisation. It is not the way we would do things in Switzerland, so before leaving I find the emails for these TV stations and give them my flight details. They reply and sound excited, saying they might want to talk to me for a minute or two. I mail back, saying they could have a full 20 minutes each, as this would give them a better understanding of my views on F1. Finally, we land in Melbourne. I feel very proud when the passport control man says "Welcome to Australia Mr. Buemi," as I didn't expect to be famous here already, but then I realise he is reading my name from the passport. Never mind. It's a scandal! I have been taken to a small room and there is talk of giving me something called a "full body search." It's ridiculous but apparently I have committed a crime by bringing 20 bars of Toblerone chocolate into Australia. I try to explain it is Swiss chocolate and therefore not just a "foodstuff." Eventually they let me go, but they keep the chocolate. I am worried there will be no TV crews still there and I will be in trouble with my press officer. But I'm lucky and do many interviews which I am sure will be a great publicity coup for the team as I don't see other drivers doing as many interviews as me. Unfortunately, the team forgot to wait for me and it is dark when I leave the airport. So I take a taxi to the city and the driver says that as it's my first time here, he will only charge me 350 Aussie Dollars. He tells me the exchange rate is 15.75 dollars to the Euro, so taxis are obviously much cheaper than back home. When I get to the hotel, my team-mate Sebastien Bourdais is there. He tells me that as I've got here so late, I shouldn't worry about getting up early for the first technical meeting at the track tomorrow and he will tell me everything the engineers say. I think he is really nice to do this and we will get on really well. He is giving me lots of little tips and also mentioned that the FIA's Charlie Whiting doesn't mind at all if you are late for the Drivers' Briefings. Also, we have both been invited to the Governor's Cocktail Reception, but Monsieur Bourdais (as he says I can call him) promised he would let me go alone, so I could do all the interviews and get all the publicity, as it is my first Grand Prix.     Some are blogs, some carry recycled news, some are started with good intentions and tail off into nothing. Here at www.F1Reports.com we know all about running a Formula One site. Between us we have about five in the last ten years, official and non-official, good and not-so-good. Each one of them has been brilliant fun! We've had a few years off as Formula One settled into a polite rhythm of Michael Schumacher winning championships with the occasional championship for one Fernando Alonso. We've been watching from the armchairs as things merrily carried on with Kimi outfoxing the field in Lewis' first year and then Lewis scrambling his way to the first championship. Midway through last year, we knew something was up and that Formula One was about to go ballistic. Lewis Hamilton had his last gasp win in Brazil, Felipe Massa was gallant in defeat and what was the most exciting final lap of a championship - ever - was also the end of an era... The hacksaws had to come out and off came all the fences, elements and flip-ups. The rear wing was seemingly cut in half with the extra bits baked on to the ends of the front wings, which were also dropped. An invisible technology called KERS was also introduced to the racing public. And Honda F1 became the first Formula One victim of the credit crunch. We still don't know if there's to be another. So do we reckon F1 in 2009 is going to be huge? You bet. Red Bull, Ferrari and BMW are all consistently fast, Renault is finding its pace and Toyota have been firing in good lap times with unusual consistency. Brawn GP has been surprising as McLaren, but for entirely different - and staggering - reasons. What we have for you in 2009 is a brand new F1 site for a brand new age of racing. Lower budgets, new regulations, a couple of new drivers and, we hope, even closer racing than last year, with everyone bunched into the space of a second in qualifying. And we'll be here all year, serving up news, opinion and official information about Formula 1. We've come back to the business because we think this year is going to be an absolute cracker.
