Hockenheim - Tough weather conditions made the hunt for best time tricky for drivers during the second qualifying session in the DTM season opener at Hockenheim. On a drying track, Gary Paffett (EURONICS Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) posted the eighth fastest time of 1:35.270 minutes in the 20-minute qualifying.

His fellow Mercedes-AMG DTM driver Robert Wickens (SILBERPFEIL Energy Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) finished in tenth place with a time of 1:35.361 minutes. Paul Di Resta (Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM) and Pascal Wehrlein (gooix Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM), who achieved podiums on Saturday in the first race, will start from P12 and P17 respectively in the second race at Hockenheim on Sunday afternoon.

The second race of the season starts at 1:43 pm. ARD will broadcast the race live from 1:20 pm onwards. The second race will last 60 minutes plus one lap. Unlike in the first race, there will be a mandatory pit stop with a tyre change.

"Qualifying was fun. It's real fun when the session starts in the wet and the circuit then begins to dry out. You switch to slicks and keep trying to push and avoid the damp sections of track. The car was really good. We went out on fresh tyres a little earlier than the others, who made the change a bit later and then had the upper hand. Still, eighth place is decent. I'm satisfied."

Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes DTM:
"That was not an easy qualifying session for us. Unfortunately, we often lost time in traffic, but that's precisely what's challenging about this new format. Still, I think we've got an exciting race ahead of us."
